Pre-Travel Health Consultations in Crewe

Every trip is different. Our NHS-trained clinicians sit down with you, go through your itinerary and medical history, and build a personalised plan of vaccinations, malaria prevention and practical advice — all in line with UK TravelHealthPro and NHS guidance.

Clinician reviewing a traveller's itinerary and medical history during a pre-travel health consultation

What happens at your consultation

A pre-travel consultation at our GPhC-registered pharmacy (reg 1029608) is a relaxed, one-to-one conversation — not a lecture. Here is what we cover:

Your itinerary, in detail

Where you are going, for how long, the time of year, and what you will be doing — a beach resort, a rural homestay and a trekking trip each carry different health risks.

Your medical history

Current medicines, allergies, long-term conditions, pregnancy and previous vaccinations — so every recommendation is safe and right for you personally.

A tailored vaccine and malaria plan

Which vaccines are recommended or required for entry, whether you need antimalarial tablets, and a dosing schedule that fits your departure date.

Certificates and records

As a Registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre we can issue the internationally recognised ICVP certificate, and you leave with an updated record of every vaccination we give.

Practical prevention advice

Bite avoidance, food and water precautions, traveller’s diarrhoea, altitude and long-haul flights — plain-English advice you can actually use while you are away.

Vaccinations in the same visit

If a vaccine is suitable and you are happy to go ahead, we can usually give it there and then — no second trip needed for most travellers.

What to bring

You do not need to prepare much, but a few things help us give you the most accurate plan:

  • Any vaccination records you have — including a child’s red book if you are booking as a family. Old records help us avoid repeating vaccines you do not need.
  • A list of your current medicines — a repeat prescription slip is perfect. We check for interactions with any vaccines or antimalarials we recommend.
  • Your itinerary — countries and regions, travel dates, and planned activities such as trekking, diving, rural stays or work with animals.
  • Details of any medical conditions or allergies — and let us know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy.

Cannot find your old records? Do not worry — come anyway and we will work with what you have.

When should you book?

Six to eight weeks before is ideal

Some vaccine courses need more than one dose spread over several weeks, and your body needs time to build protection before you land. Booking early also gives us room to fit any follow-up doses comfortably around your departure date.

Travelling sooner? Still come in

It is never too late to be seen. Some vaccines start working quickly, malaria tablets can often be started close to departure, and personalised advice on bite avoidance and food and water precautions is valuable however soon you fly.

Frequently asked questions

When should I book my travel health consultation?

Ideally six to eight weeks before you travel. Some vaccine courses need more than one dose spread over several weeks, and your body needs time to build protection. That said, it is never too late to be seen — some vaccines work quickly, and even a last-minute consultation gives you personalised advice on malaria prevention, bite avoidance and staying well abroad.

What happens during the appointment?

One of our NHS-trained clinicians goes through your itinerary — where you are going, for how long, and what you will be doing — alongside your medical history and any medicines you take. You then get a personalised plan covering the vaccinations recommended for your trip, whether you need malaria tablets, and practical advice on staying healthy while you are away. Where suitable, we can usually give your vaccinations in the same visit.

What should I bring with me?

Bring any vaccination records you have (including a child’s red book for family bookings), a list of your current medicines or a repeat prescription slip, and your itinerary — countries, travel dates, and whether you will be in rural areas or doing activities such as trekking or animal work. Do not worry if you cannot find old records; we will work with whatever you have.

Can I have my vaccinations on the same day?

Usually, yes. If a vaccine is recommended and suitable for you, we can normally give it during the same appointment, including yellow fever — we are a Registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre. Some vaccines need a course of doses over several weeks, so we will plan any follow-up visits around your departure date.

How much does a travel health consultation cost?

We will confirm the cost when you book, and you only pay for the vaccines or antimalarials you decide to go ahead with. Every vaccine price is published on our vaccine price list, and your clinician will always talk you through the costs of your personalised plan before anything is given.

Do your recommendations follow official guidance?

Yes. Our advice follows TravelHealthPro — the UK national travel health resource used by the NHS — together with NHS guidance. That means the vaccines and malaria prevention we recommend for your destination match what UK national guidance says, tailored to your own health and itinerary by an NHS-trained clinician.

Can you see families, groups and business travellers?

Yes. We see individual travellers, couples, families with children, and group bookings. If your organisation sends staff abroad, we also offer corporate and group travel health services — call us and we will arrange appointments to suit your team.
